Seraphina’s mother falls gravely ill. Shattock manages to obtain a rare, exorbitantly-priced miracle drug to save his mother-in-law’s life. To help her assistant Jareth’s mother, Seraphina takes the drug for her own purposes, unintentionally causing her own mother’s death. In the end, Seraphina realizes she is responsible for her mother’s death, while also facing her company’s bankruptcy and Jareth’s betrayal, plunging her into deep regret and despair.
